The Trust in partnership with Perth and Kinross Council Countryside Rangers is offering environmental volunteering opportunities for young people aged 14-25. Youth groups are able to include these opportunities within their normal programme of activities. Two options are offered:
Option 1 Group should pick up a minimum of 3 volunteering days between May and September in a planned programme. Each of the young people in the group must complete at least 3 days.
On the day, each group is accompanied by a youth worker or leader who supervises the group. The group organises transport to/from the site. On site, Perth and Kinross Council’s Countryside Rangers provides technical supervision, refreshments, lunches, material, tools and equipment. On the day, participants discover a place, explore it and conserve it.
The number of participants for each volunteering day is limited to 10. The minimum number of participants per group is 3 and the maximum is 10. Places are attributed on ‘first come first served’ basis.
Each of the young people participating in the volunteering days enter the John Muir Awards at Discovery Level or another level if appropriate.
Option 2 The Group organises a residential with an environmental theme between May and September. The Group choose the date and location. To be eligible, residential will have to meet the following criteria: - The Group operates in Perth and Kinross - The Residential involves young people aged 14-25 - The Residential takes place in Perth and Kinross area - The Residential programme includes volunteering work to improve a local environment open to the public, or protect or conserve plants and/or animals habitats - The Residential participants enter the John Muir Award programme at Discovery, Explorer or Conserver Level. - The Residential must include at least one night
The Group has the entire responsibility to organise the residential.
