Organisations Public, voluntary organisations and businesses can contribute to a better quality of life and sustainable development in different ways: They can change their habits regarding waste, energy, transport, purchasing and employee well being as well as participating and supporting their local communities. The Trust is working in partnership with public and voluntary organisations such as Perth and Kinross Council and is developing working arrangements to actively support sustainable development.
One example of of such partnership is the Consortium Perth & Kinross.
The Consortium is an informal grouping of organisations which have come together and signed in June 2003 a Charter which defines the values and commitments of the signatories. The overall aim of The Consortium is to provide more, meaningful, better work experience, training, personal development, job opportunities and individual support to disadvantaged groups. These groups include, but are not limited to, people with mental health support needs, people with a disability, homeless people or people at risk of homelessness. The ethos of The Consortium is to value the individuals to enhance self-worth and is based on a partnership within the voluntary sector, and with the private and statutory sectors. Can-Able, Gateway Enterprises (PKAVS), CATH New Futures and many others are all signatories. For more examples, visit the Perthshire Positive Actions Forum.
Although the Trust cannot give direct support to businesses, we would like to encourage businesses to visit Forward Scotland for more information on sustainable businesses.
You can also support Fairtrade by purchasing, selling and using Fairtrade products.
