COMMUNITY WASTE GRANT SCHEME

 

What is the Community Waste Grant Scheme?

 

Perth and Kinross Council’s Community Waste grant Scheme is a new initiative to help build greater community involvement in the drive to reduce the amount of waste that we send to landfill.  Through the scheme, support and funding can be provided for community led initiatives, such as:

 

· Waste reduction projects such as promotion of reusable bags, reusable nappies, swap shops etc

· Reuse and recycling of furniture, carpets, mattresses ,bicycles and paint

· Community composting

· Recycling activities in communities

Collection of bulky household items (eg beds, fridges) for reuse or recycling

 

What Kind of Projects will be Supported?

 

Projects which are developed under the following headings are a priority for support:

 

· Waste Reduction, Reuse and Recycling

· Training and development

· Education and awareness

· Social inclusion

Volunteering opportunities

 

Who Can Apply?

 

Projects must be developed by community or voluntary organisations.   The definition of a voluntary or community organisation is a body led by volunteers, is non-profit distributing, legally independent of the state, and is dedicated to a public good (CoSLA/ SCVO 1998).  Organisations can be local or national.  Applicant organisations would have to demonstrate that they are open to all regardless of religion, race, gender or disability.

 

What Can the Grant be Used for?

 

Grants would normally be awarded for:

 

· revenue and capital costs

· equipment costs

· staff costs

· reasonable professional fees which are directly incurred in respect of the project concerned.  In addition, professional fees will only be considered where consulation has taken place with the appropriate Council Service.

 

What Can the Grant Not be Used for?

 

Grants will not normally be awarded:

 

· retrospectively

· for annually recurring maintenance costs

· for travelling and accommodation costs

for professional fees except reasonable professional fees which are directly incurred in respect of the project concerned.

 

How Much Would the Grant be?

 

The scheme can fund up to £10,000 of the project costs.  The maximum level of grant can be increased in exceptional circumstances.  The Scheme will not normally consider a request for less than £500.
