Cashback for Communities Fund

 

The latest strand of the Scottish Government’s Cashback for Communities scheme is now open for applications.

 

Grants will be given to projects from areas of multiple deprivation to fill gaps in provision for young people in those areas.  The grants will fund organisations which support young people who are currently involved in or at risk of becoming involved in violence, alcohol, drugs and or anti-social behaviour.  The emphasis is on youth work interventions constructed with and for young people in the 10-19 age group.  (more)

 

Peoples Millions 2008

 

The Big Lottery Fund have teamed up with ITV for a new round of The Peoples Millions fund.  This year, 90 awards of £50,000 will be available across the country to voluntary and community groups, local authorities, schools, health bodies and social enterprises.

 

The focus of the funding is on projects that help communities to transform or enjoy their environment (buildings, amenities, public and green spaces and the natural environment).  (more)

 

Help Yourselves Awards

 

Grants of up to £1,000 are available to change the lives of children in your community.

 

The Help Yourselves Awards will fund projects that have a positive impact on the circumstances and experiences of children and young people:

· through the improvement of life chances

· that are strongly young-person led

· that benefit vulnerable and disadvantaged group, and for higher-level Awards - those living in communities experiencing severe poverty.  (more)

 

Voluntary Action Fund

 

The Voluntary Action Fund has confirmed that its flagship volunteering investment fund is once more open for business.  The Volunteering Grant Scheme (VSGS) can provide a grant for up to three years for projects that attract harder to reach volunteers.

 

Applications for grant are now invited.  Substantial grants for one, two or three years are available, as well as one-off small grants of £5,000 to smaller organisations.  (more)

 

Sport Relief Funding

 

Sport Relief was established by Comic Relief and BBC Sport and aims to fund work that uses sport and exercise to strengthen communities and provide opportunities for people who are excluded or disadvantaged. This may be through low income, rural or social isolation, age, disability, race, sexuality or gender.

Sport Relief is not simply about supporting sports activities or helping clubs expand, but it's about helping organisations to use the power of sport and exercise to work with disadvantaged or excluded people to improve their quality of life.

 

Registered charities and not-for-profit groups with charitable aims and objectives can apply for up to £10,000.  Applications to Sport Relief can be made until 11 August 2008.  However organisations are advised that the majority of funding is expected to be allocated in the early stages of the programme.  (more)

 

Plans for Travel Demo Towns

 

The Scottish Government is making £15 million available over the next 3 years and calling for expressions of interest on a matched funding basis from Scotland’s local authorities to help create a series of ‘sustainable travel demonstration communities’ across the country. 

 

The communities would be a role model for others to follow, showcasing the very best methods available to encourage residents to use more environmentally-friendly forms of transport.  (more)

 

Nationwide Community and Heritage Awards 2008

 

Nationwide Building Society has teamed up with the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) to launch the Nationwide Community and Heritage Awards 2008, inviting the public to nominate people or groups who deserve recognition for community or voluntary work that has made a real difference to peoples lives.

 

Nominations for the very best and most inspirational volunteers in the UK can be made for either:

 

· Community Champion - recognition for those who have made an impact in their local community.

· Heritage Hero - recognition for those who have volunteered to become involved in saving a part of their heritage and sharing it with others.  (more)
