NEWSROOM New Fund to Support Eco Schools A new fund has been launched that will encourage Perth and Kinross schools to achieve ‘Eco-School’ status. Scottish Hydro Electric, in partnership with Perth & Kinross Council and Perth and Kinross Quality of Life Trust, has agreed to provide funding to set up the Scottish Hydro Electric Perth and Kinross Eco-Schools Action Fund. The Fund will provide a cash award of £750 for each school achieving its first Eco Schools Green Flag. The Eco Schools programme is an international programme supporting active citizenship and sustainable development. To gain an Eco Schools Green Flag a school has to carry out projects covering subjects like energy efficiency, reduction in water consumption, waste and litter reduction and school grounds improvement. Schools can achieve Bronze, Silver or Green Flag Awards. (more) Scottish Rural Development Fund (SRDP) Update The Scottish Rural Development Programme (SRDP) is currently with the European Commission for approval with the aim of the programme opening in early 2008. The SRDP is a £1.6 billion programme of economic, environmental and social measures designed to develop rural Scotland over the next seven years. It includes measures to address economic, social and environmental goals and is open to individuals, businesses and constituted groups. Further news and notification of opening of the programme will be included within future e-funding news bulletins. A series of public meetings have also been arranged to provide an overview of the programme and its delivery mechanisms. (more) Village Halls Summit A major conference for everyone involved in running, supporting and funding rural Scotland’s village halls and other community facilities will take place at the Aviemore Highland resort on Saturday 23rd February. (more) Its Your Community The Conservation Foundation and O2 have come together to operate an award scheme to help people improve their local environment. ‘Its Your Community’ will provide awards of up to £1,000 to local organisations and individuals to support environmental projects such as turning derelict land into an amenity park or wildlife area, tree planting, creating a wildlife pond, renovating neglected river and canal footpaths, providing water butts and recycling facilities in village halls, etc. (more) Trusthouse Charitable Foundation Grants Programme Charities and not for profit organisations that are active in the fields of Health Care and Disability, Community Support and the Arts and Education are able to apply for funding through the Trusthouse Charitable Foundation. The Foundation currently distributes over £2 million per year. The funding is available through the Small Grants Scheme, which provides grants of up to £10,000 and the Large Grants Scheme which offers grants of between £10,000 and £30,000. (more) Active Living Fund Grants of up to £1,000 are available through the Kellog’s Active Living Fund for projects that remove the ‘barriers’ which stop people being active. The fund is open to charities and other voluntary and community organisations as well as as schools for activities that directly lead to people taking part in sustained physical activity. (more) Big Lottery Fund Deadlines The final decisions for The Big Lottery’s Investing in Communities programme will be made during 2009. To make sure that all applications have been fully assessed in time for the final committee, deadlines have been set. The deadline for projects which are likely to fit within Dynamic, Inclusive Communities are Thursday 31 January (Outline Proposal Form) and Friday 30 May (Full Application Forms). The deadline for Outline Proposals for other investment areas - Supporting 21st Century Life, Life Transitions and Growing Community Assets - has been set for Friday 1st August 2008 (Outline Proposal Form). (more) The Funders Fair Plus CVS Perth and Kinross, with support from its partners in the Tayside Funding Group, have arranged a Funders Fair on Thursday 7th February 2008 from 10am until 3.30pm in the Salutation Hotel, Perth. Delegates will have the chance to meet major funders, discuss funding opportunities with them and carry out funding searches using electronic databases.
