NEWSROOM Breathing Places Programme Seminar Perth and Kinross Grants Direct will be holding a Breathing Places funding seminar on Wednesday 21st November, giving community groups the chance to apply for support for environmental projects. The Breathing Places programme, run by the Big Lottery and BBC, provides grants of between £1,000 to £10,000 for projects that improve biodiversity, develop community access and increase community engagement. The programme opens for applications on Monday 12th November and schools, community groups, bloom committees and village halls are all eligible to apply for funding. The scheme aims to involve 13-20 year-olds in finding out about their heritage, developing skills, building confidence and promoting community involvement. (more) Grants from Age Concern Scotland Voluntary organisations working for the benefit of older people in Scotland may be eligible to apply for funding through the Age Concern Scotland Grants scheme. Grants of between £500 and £5,000 are available to develop new projects that will benefit older people. This includes purchase of equipment and organisation of conferences and training. (more) Schools Invited to Register Interest in Playground Partnerships 2008 Schools within the UK that wish to improve their play spaces are invited to register their interest in Playground Partnerships 2008. A total of £500,000 is available to fund specific improvements and development to play environments. (more) Funding to Support Community Initiatives Small Community based organisations with a project idea that will be of benefit to their local community are eligible to apply for up to £5,000 to the Scottish Community Foundation. (more) Comic Relief Announces Next Application Deadline Comic Relief has announced that the next application deadline for grants over £5,000 is the 29th February 2008. Grants are available through 6 programme areas (Young People, Older People, Mental Health, Asylum Seekers, Domestic Violence and Disadvantaged Communities). (more) Committee Game Seminar Perth and Kinross Grants Direct have a arranged a Committee Game funding seminar for Wednesday 5th December. This is a chance to be an assessor for the day, read and score applications, discuss with others and decide who gets the funding. This hands on session will help you focus on what really makes a good application—helping you to make better applications in the future. Delegates will have the chance to meet major funders and discuss funding opportunities with them, attend workshops and carry out funding searches using electronic databases. The £1,215,000 grant will allow the Council to restore the heritage features, increase public access by upgrading the path networks, refurbish the pavilion and provide improved facilities for visitors. Artspace Scotland have been awarded a Young Roots grant worth £25,000 to involve young people in exploring the heritage of St Magdalene’s Hill, a local landmark located to the south of Perth. Young people will investigate the historic settlements on the site and examine the local wildlife and social history of the hill. The project outputs will be a drama production, a DVD, a photographic exhibition, a website and text for information panels. Perth Six Circle project received £327,000 from The Big Lottery Fund to help 125 adults excluded through a range of circumstances such as mental health problems, experience of substance misuse and homelessness to move on with their lives with confidence. The project will provide work experience placements, volunteering opportunities and activities such as gardening and painting.
