NEWSROOM Grants for Green Spaces in Perth and Kinross 5 community organisations within Perth and Kinross have successfully secured funding through the Breathing Places programme, an initiative run jointly by the BBC and The BIG Lottery Fund. The programme provides funding which allows communities to transform the local environment and create wildlife friendly green spaces. Abernyte Community Council, Glenfarg & Duncrieve in Bloom, Inchture Primary School, Killin Primary School and Perthshire Housing Association secured a total of £45,941 for projects which will improve biodiversity, regenerate green areas, develop community access and increase community engagement in the local environment. (more) Additional Funding for ‘Investing in Communities’ The BIG Lottery have announced additional funding for their Life Transitions and Supporting 21st Century Life investment areas. Life Transitions has been one the most popular areas of investment to date with a high volume of applications. As a result, a further £15 million has been committed. Applications are encouraged from projects which target hard to reach young people and which focus on key transitions experienced by older and vulnerable adults. (more) Supporting 21st Century Life has also received a high number of quality applications. To meet this demand a further £7 million has been added to the original budget. Applications are encouraged from projects that enable people and communities to think and plan ahead to meet future needs and services. (more) Although no additional funding has been added within the Growing Community Assets investment area, applications are encouraged from the following areas; · supporting the production, sale and consumption of local food · encouraging applications from the South and East of Scotland · supporting the development of community-owned green spaces The deadline for submitting Outline Proposal Forms for the above investment areas is 1st August 2008. Lottery Legacy for 2014 Commonwealth Games The BIG Lottery will launch a ‘2014 Communities’ fund to create a lasting community legacy from Glasgow’s 2014 Commonwealth Games. The fund will be aimed at supporting people and communities to participate in the landmark event, whether that be through taking part in sport, volunteering, learning new skills or by arranging celebratory events marking Scotland’s place in the Commonwealth. The Big Lottery Fund is keen for people and communities to have their say in where Lottery money should go in support of Glasgow’s 2014 Commonwealth Games. Log onto www.biglotteryfund.org.uk/2014 to have your say. The deadline for completing the survey is Friday 4th July. £2 Million LEADER Funding for Rural Tayside Rural Tayside has been awarded £2 million of LEADER funding to be allocated over the period 2008-2013. LEADER is part of the new Scottish Rural Development Programme (SRDP), aimed at promoting economic and community development within rural areas. Support will be aimed primarily at small-scale, community driven projects that are pilot and innovative in nature. The programme is open to constituted community groups, social enterprises, voluntary organisations, public sector bodies and individuals who have public support for a project idea. (more) Green Grants for CSV’s Action Earth Campaign CSV’s Action Earth campaign runs until 31st July 2008. It is supported by Scottish Natural Heritage and Morrison’s and provides two easy ways to access grants for environmental projects across Scotland. Application forms can be downloaded or completed online. All grants are allocated on a first come first serve basis so please register quickly. (more) Its Your Community Initiative O2 have committed £1 million to the “Its your Community” initiative. Its Your Community, which is managed by the Conservation Foundation, provides grants of between £100 and £1,000 to individuals and groups to improve their local environment. Projects supported previously include turning derelict land into an amenity park or wildlife area, tree planting, creating a wildlife pond, renovating neglected river and canal footpaths, providing water butts and recycling facilities in village halls.
