FUNDING FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE (INCLUDING SCHOOLS) Quick links to funding for children and young people (including schools); Corporate Financial Assistance to the Voluntary/Community Sector The Council awards grants from its Corporate Financial Assistance Budget to voluntary/community organisations to invest in growth and development and grass-roots activities. This includes support for improving facilities and amenities for young people, youth groups and crèches and attendance at events and festivals. To apply, please use the Single Application Form Perth and Kinross Quality of Life Trust (Better Place to Live Grants) Perth and Kinross Quality of Life Trust will support projects which improve the Quality of Life within Perth and Kinross and develop sustainable communities. To apply, please use the Single Application Form The Common Good Funds are in place to support local residents and organisations by distributing grants. These grant awards allow individuals and local organisations to carry out a wide range of community based activities. Particular support is given to school/youth exchanges, school prizes, attendance at summer schools/events, visits, and acquisition of equipment. (more) To apply, please use the Single Application Form Community Safety Partnership Local Action Fund 2007/08 The Local Action Fund is money which has been allocated to the Perth and Kinross Community Safety Partnership by The Scottish Government. The purpose of the fund is to support the provision of services, projects and activities available to all young people. (more) The Perthshire Royal Army Service Corps Memorial Charitable Trust The purpose of the fund is to address the needs of inhabitants of Perth and Kinross, including children and young people, disadvantaged by economic circumstances and advance educational attainment. (more) To apply, please use the Single Application Form New Fund to Support Eco Schools A new fund has been launched that will encourage Perth and Kinross schools to achieve ‘Eco-School’ status. Scottish Hydro Electric, in partnership with Perth & Kinross Council and Perth and Kinross Quality of Life Trust, has agreed to provide funding to set up the Scottish Hydro Electric Perth and Kinross Eco-Schools Action Fund. The Fund will provide a cash award of £750 for each school achieving its first Eco Schools Green Flag. The Eco Schools programme is an international programme supporting active citizenship and sustainable development. To gain an Eco Schools Green Flag a school has to carry out projects covering subjects like energy efficiency, reduction in water consumption, waste and litter reduction and school grounds improvement. Schools can achieve Bronze, Silver or Green Flag Awards. (more) BIG is the largest distributor of lottery money. £257 million will be invested in Scotland’s communities by 2009 to bring about social change. The Young Peoples Fund has distributed over £1 million of lottery cash in Scotland, much of which has benefited the Perth and Kinross area. (more) Awards for All Scotland awards grants of between £500 and £10,000 for young people to take part in art, sport, heritage and community activities and projects that promote education, the environment and health in the local community. The Help Yourselves Awards will fund projects that have a positive impact on the circumstances and experiences of children and young people: · through the improvement of life chances · that are strongly young-person led · that benefit vulnerable and disadvantaged group, and for higher-level Awards - those living in communities experiencing severe poverty. (more) BBC Children in Need provides grants for up to 3 years to constituted not-for-profit organisations working with disadvantaged young people aged 18 or under. Last year the programme made grants of £33 million to over 1,500 organisations. (more) HBOS Foundation – Community Action Programme Through its Community Action Programme, the HBOS Foundation makes grants of up to £10,000 to support a diverse range of local activities. The programme is open to registered charities and has two key themes: money advice and financial literacy and developing and improving local communities. (more) Young Roots offers grants of between £5,000 and £25,000. The scheme aims to involve 13-20 year-olds in finding out about their heritage, developing skills, building confidence and promoting community involvement. (more) Schools Invited to Register Interest in Playground Partnerships 2008 Schools within the UK that wish to improve their play spaces are invited to register their interest in Playground Partnerships 2008. A total of £500,000 is available to fund specific improvements and development to play environments.
